The format of a website/page URL plays certain weight in Search Engine Optimization.

It’s probably a safe assumption that URL format is not as important as website title, incoming links and keyword density; but every bit of SEO technique counts and should be optimized.

The general rule of Search Engine Optimization friendly URL is to put related keywords in URL instead of numbers or symbols.

Most of the newly developed Content Management System (CMS) are equipped with SEO friendly URL option. Example is Wordpress, the blogging script that I am using for this blog; which integrates the blog post title in the URL.
